Major Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a strategic vision for research informatics to support translational, clinical, and population health research across the enterprise and its affiliated institutions ; Collaborate with academic and operational leaders at the School of Medicine to align research informatics efforts with institutional priorities ; Serve as a key member of the IT leadership team and the School of Medicine's senior leadership team.
Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust informatics infrastructure s to support new data intensive initiatives in precision medicine and other areas and support data collection, integration, and analysis across Advocate Health's multi-state health system ; Identify gaps between existing resources and platforms and future needs ; Ensure the research data ecosystem supports interoperability, compliance, and scalability for current and future research needs ; Collaborate with IT and data governance teams to enhance data availability, security, and integrity.
- Data Science and Analytics : 1) Promote the use of advanced data science techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, to enable cutting-edge research and discoveries. 2) Support investigators and research teams with data curation, integration, and visualization tools to optimize study design and outcomes. 3) Foster collaboration between research teams and health system data analytics teams to facilitate actionable insights and innovation.
- Operational Excellence and Compliance : 1) Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional data governance and research regulations, including HIPAA, IRB standards, and other relevant guidelines. 2) O versee processes for data access, sharing, and security to maintain trust and protect patient privacy. 3) Develop and manage budgets for research informatics initiatives and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
- Faculty and Staff Development : 1) Recruit, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary team of research informatics professionals, data scientists, and analysts to support activities within the WFUSM and the Advocate Health National Center for Clinical Trials . 2) Collaborate with WFUSM department chairs and research center directors in the recruitment of biomedical informatics investigators. 3) Collaborate with WFUSM faculty to incorporate informatics into education and training programs for students, residents, and fellows. 4 ) Foster a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and professional growth within the research informatics team.
- Collaboration and Innovation : 1) Build partnerships with other academic institutions, industry, and governmental organizations to enhance research informatics capabilities and expand funding opportunities. 2) Serve as a thought leader in research informatics, representing Advocate Health and W FUSM at national and international forums. 3) Support the growth of clinical trials and translational research by enhancing informatics tools for protocol design, recruitment, real-world evidence generation and data analysis.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Advanced certification or training in informatics or data science, preferred.
Education Required:
Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as bio medical informatics, health informatics, or computational biology.
Experience Required:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in research informatics within a large academic health system or research institution.
Expertise in machine learning, AI, or advanced analytics in biomedical research, preferred.
Experience in leading large, multi-institutional research informatics initiatives, preferred.
Strong record of scholarly contributions in biomedical informatics or a related field, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Proven success in designing and implementing informatics strategies to support research and clinical operations.
Strong knowledge of research regulations, data governance, and informatics platforms.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, IT professionals, and administrators.
Visionary leadership and strategic thinking.
Strong analytical and technical expertise in informatics and data systems.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable , and inclusive environment.

This role is responsible for guiding and advancing research informatics and data science strategies across the enterprise. Will serve as a primary liaison between information technology (IT) teams and the biomedical and healthcare research communities. Will ensure the seamless integration of informatics capabilities into the clinical and research enterprises and foster innovation, collaboration, and growth in research informatics within the health system; will also inform the development of IT infrastructures to: (1) support groundbreaking research; (2) drive innovation in clinical, healthcare delivery, and population health trials; (3) support the informatics needs of the emerging National Center for Clinical Trials; and (4) establish real-world evidence platforms to transform care across the enterprise's multi-state footprint.
