Direct reports include: Program Director, Maintenance Director, Kitchen Director, Waterfront Director, Health Director, Store Director, and Executive Assistant
Camp Wakeshma is seeking an Executive Director to lead summer camp operations. This role is seasonal (January to September) with most of the work to manage enrollment, hiring and the summer season. The Camp Wakeshma Executive Director is required to live on property for 10-weeks of summer sessions (early-June to mid-August). Room and board for summer season is included in compensation package.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Camp Wakeshma summer operations (55 staff members & 132 campers)
- Promote the attributes of the C.A.M.P.P. community and deliver on mission statement
- Manage the receipt and process of camp registrations, waitlist, and cancelations
- Manage website, UltraCamp, Square, and other data systems needed for operations
- Develop and operate fiscal year budget and maintain accurate financial records, ensure prompt vendor payment and manage accurate staff payroll
- Communicate with parents during summer season as well as off-season
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate camp staff
- Work with camp executive assistant to manage administrative tasks as applicable: registration, website, bookkeeping, etc.
- Promote camp via local events, website, email, and printed materials
- Work with schools to provide scholarships/camperships
- Maintain relationships with camp vendors to ensure smooth operations and that supplies are purchased and paid for as needed
- Arrange for camp inspections and maintain summer camp operating license
- Execute necessary background checks.
- Oversee seasonal “opening” and “closing” of camp facilities, and ensure stewardship of all camp equipment, grounds, and buildings
- Ensure camp is occupied on summer weekends by appropriate personnel
- Manage off-season projects relating to facilities and grounds with board members and maintenance staff
- Work to accomplish strategic direction from Board of Directors
- Report timely & accurate data to Board: licensing requirements, registration, demographics, parent survey on Google Forms, etc. Includes analyze responses, and make/suggest changes based on info/feedback
- Secure applicable grant and donations
- Work to promote camp at the local level in St Joe County and surrounding school districts, and ensure a positive relationship with adjacent property Camp Eberhart and Corey Lake Association

Requirements
- Proven Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably within a classroom, summer camp, non-profit, or youth-development environment.
- Operational & Tech Proficiency: Hands-on experience managing enrollment software, financial software (Square/QuickBooks), and utilizing Google Workspace. Camp management software (specifically UltraCamp) and data analysis via Google Forms preferred.
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Demonstrated knowledge of state camp licensing requirements, background check protocols, and ACA standards to ensure a safe, compliant environment.
- Financial Stewardship: Experience developing and managing an annual operating budget, including payroll processing, vendor management, and financial record-keeping.
- Staff Development: Track record of successfully recruiting, training, and mentoring a diverse seasonal staff (up to 50+ members) while fostering a positive "C.A.M.P.P." community culture.
- Strategic Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with a Board of Directors, donor relations, scholarship coordination with schools, community relations, staff training, and maintaining transparent communication with parents.
- On-Site Commitment: Ability to reside on-property for the full 10-week summer session (June–August) and travel for local promotional events in St. Joseph County (January through September).
- Facilities Management: Ability to oversee seasonal 'opening' and 'closing' of facilities and manage off-season maintenance projects in coordination with the Board. Experience managing lake property, aquatic vehicles, and waterfront is a plus.
